The Norwegian composer, pianist and music producer Øystein Sevåg was born in Bærum outside Oslo in 1957. He had his first piano lessons at age five with his father. As a teen he played bass in several bands but returned to his classical roots in time to study flute and piano at Barratt Dues Music Conservatory in Oslo, as well as studying composition with Bjørn Fongaard and Johan Kvandal. By the 1980s, however, Sevåg had become fascinated by the possibilities offered by the development of the synthesizer, and he plunged into electronic music with his self-released 1989 debut album Close Your Eyes and See.
